Swimming is a fast-paced, immersive and competitive sport, as well as one of the most rewarding. At Warwick, we encourage our swimmers to reach their highest potential, whether you are into racing, fitness or just looking to improve or learn a new skill!
We offer 8 training sessions a week in the pool and multiple land-based sessions. We have different squads for all abilities, organising the club into the Development, Club and Competitive Squads, making it easier to cater for the needs and abilities of all of our swimmers, providing tailored coached sessions for each squad.
Our coach, Ben Walker, along with out Captains, will be producing a 10 week training programme each term, strategically targeting major competitions such as BUCS Short Course at the end of Term 1, BUCS Long Course in Term 2 and BUCS League in Term 3.
Alongside our competitive swimmers, this year we are excited to introduce the new position of Development Officer, a role working with our coach with the aim of maximising the potential of beginner and development swimmer progress and enjoyment. We are assisted by a number of volunteer coaches and poolside assistants, and our aim as a club is to help each individual swimmer achieve their own personal goals.
Warwick enters a team for all three of the national level university competitions (BUCS), held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. At these meets, our team competes against some of the best swimmers in the country. This year we reached a number of BUCS finals.
In addition to BUCS, we take teams to friendly competitions throughout the year, especially open meets aimed at those with less competition experience. We encourage and support all swimmers who wish to compete, at any level. And of course, each year we get the chance to defend our Varsity title against Coventry University!
Swimming is a fantastic sport which offers a great balance of training, socials and competition. We happily welcome athletes from other aquatic disciplines, such as open water and triathlon, who wish to improve their technique and fitness in the water.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us – either via the contact details on this website, on Facebook or at training sessions.
Water polo is a seven-a-side team sport played in a swimming pool in which the objective is to get the football sized ball into the opponents net. It is a challenging but also highly rewarding sport combining speed, strength, action, teamwork and a high level of fitness, meaning it's a fantastic way to get fit and have fun!
Water polo at Warwick offers not only competition and training at the highest university level, but also a fantastic social team atmosphere for players of all levels of ability. From players competing in the British National League and European semi-professionals who trained in the youth divisions of the world's best clubs to complete novices who never held a water polo ball before joining, we are a diverse group united by our strong bond to our sport and team.
With 4 polo training sessions a week, access to multiple coached swimming sessions and strength and conditioning workshops we have everything in place for you to develop to your potential and for our team to continue competing at the top division in our area for BUCS.
Despite competing at a high level, beginners represent an integral part of our club with many of our members never having played before university. Our second team allows new players to gain match experience throughout the year, although there is always an opportunity for even complete beginners to earn a place on our 1st teams! Our training sessions are also split into groups of different experience and ability to even allow beginners not interested in competing to train in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
If you have any questions please contact us through the details on this website or just find us on Facebook (Warwick Water Polo 2019/2020) or just drop-by at any training session.
We look forward to seeing you in the pool!
